Bagpipes Jazz
Jazz is all about pushing boundaries, connecting the dots between styles and ideas in order to express yourself creativly. It was therefore with great sadness that I read of the death of the inspirational jazz bagpiper, Rufus Harley:Exploiting the bagpipes' power to sustain drones while cultivating a considerable jazzy agility, Harley also drew on the funky soul-jazz style popular in the mid-60s, which made his approach accessible yet surprising, and much more than a mere novelty.
From Rufus' obituary in the Guardian.
