Atsugi Ayu Matsuri

Last night was the annual firework festival in Hon-Atsugi. The event itself is pretty spectacular because thousands of people descend onto the riverbed of Atsugi river to watch the pyrotechnic display.


Unfortunately due to a freak combination of jetlag, NFL fixtures, university proposals, Aikido and boyfriends none of my friends were able to join me. So I shared my tarpaulin with a few random kimono-wearing couples - sat back with my cans of Asahi and enjoyed the display.

Have to say that its not as much fun when you are on your tod - but hey - things going "wizz... BANG!" are always entertaining. Here are a few pictures of said wizz-bangs:
